Travolta son dies in bath

/ On : sábado, enero 03, 2009/

John Travolta was grief-stricken last night after his 16-year-old son Jett was found dead in a bath tub.

The Hollywood star’s lad was plagued by fits. He fell ill and hit his head at the Bahamas holiday home where he was staying with his dad, mum Kelly Preston and sister Ella Bleu, eight.

A mum's love ... Kelly and Jett

Jett was found unconscious in the bathroom by a caretaker at 11.40am. It is feared a seizure caused him to hit his head on the tub. He was rushed to hospital in Freeport from the Old Bahama Bay Resort on Grand Bahama island. But the lad was dead on arrival.

Grease and Pulp Fiction star Travolta, 54, and Kelly, 46, were being comforted by pals at the beach-front apartment last night. A police spokesman said: “Information is that Jett suffered from seizures.

“He was last seen when he went to use the bathroom at their residence.” A post-mortem will be held.

Doting dad John had even named one of his planes after his tragic only son.

The Hollywood star called one of his five aircraft Jett Clipper Ella in honour of the 16-year-old lad and his daughter Ella Bleu, eight.

Keen pilot Travolta, 54, also named his Florida estate — which has a 6,400 square foot mansion designed to resemble an airport terminal — Jett-Bleu after the kids.

Pilot

The house is at the end of a 1.4mile runway from which Travolta can take off in his fleet of private jets.

The actor arrived at his vacation home in Freeport, Grand Bahama, with his wife Kelly Preston, Jett and Ella Bleu on Tuesday.

They flew in by private jet. It is not known if Saturday Night Fever star Travolta was piloting the aircraft.

Grease star Travolta has denied previous claims his son was autistic.

He said the lad suffers Kawasaki Disease, an illness that affects the skin, mouth, and lymph nodes.

The cause of the condition, which normally affects under-fives, is unknown.

If symptoms are picked up early sufferers can recover within days.

Untreated, it can lead to serious complications that can affect the heart. They include vasculitis, an inflammation of the blood vessels. This can be very dangerous as it can affect the arteries supplying blood to the heart.

The disease occurs in only 19 in every 100,000 children in America.

Yesterday’s death was doubly devastating for Travolta’s actress wife Kelly, 46.

She was only three when her father, who worked for an agricultural firm, drowned leaving her and mother Linda. Health worker Linda remarried Peter Palzis. He adopted Kelly, who was born and brought up in Hawaii.

Travolta shot to worldwide fame in disco blockbuster Saturday Night Fever in 1977.

But he languished in light dramas and TV movies in the 1980s, then started a comeback in 1989 with film Look Who’s Talking.

He further boosted his career with an Oscar nomination for his role as a heavyset sympathetic hitman in Quentin Tarantino film Pulp Fiction in 1994.

Problems

Just two years ago he survived an air drama when he was forced to make an emergency landing on a flight from Germany to New York.

His Boeing 707 suffered engine problems and he had to divert to Ireland's Shannon Airport.

Cool Travolta grounded his 34-seater and continued his flight home on a commercial airline.
