Rhys Jones killer is beaten

/ On : sábado, enero 03, 2009/

THE teenage gunman serving life for shooting dead schoolboy Rhys Jones has been battered by another lag — and moved to a new location.

Sean Mercer, 18, was given a “good trouncing” soon after he was convicted of killing 11-year-old Rhys — the innocent victim of a gangland feud.

Mercer was attacked at a Young Offenders Institute in Lancashire and taken 45 miles to the medical wing at HMP Hindley, Gtr Manchester, and treated before his transfer.

A prison source said: “His injuries and the name of his new prison are a closely-guarded secret.

“We know that someone gave him a good trouncing over Rhys and the management decided it was best to get him straight out.

“He’s a marked man. Criminals do not like child killers.”

Another source said: “Mercer and this big bloke squared up and then it all went off.

“All I could see was a blur of punches and kicks before the guards stormed in.

“Everyone knows Mercer’s going to get what’s coming to him.

“It’s just a matter of time before one of the blokes makes a name for himself.”

Mercer was jailed for at least 22 years for shooting dead Everton fan Rhys in a pub car park in Croxteth, Liverpool.

He was firing at gang rivals and hit Rhys in the neck by mistake.

Before the beating, Mercer had been stripped of privileges for a week for threatening to hit a prison guard.

The Ministry of Justice said: “We don’t comment on individual cases.”
