Jade's too ill to talk but she was baptised

BATTLING Jade Goody has bravely gone ahead with her christening in hospital today — and gave her final "goodbye".

The cancer-stricken Big Brother star’s kids arrived at hospital this morning as preparations for their joint ceremony got under way.

Jade's condition is rapidly worsening and she barely has the strength to stand unaided.

Consultants at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital now believe she has only a week to live.

But determined Jade, 27, was reunited with her sons Bobby, five, and Freddie, four, so all three could be christened together.

She used every ounce of her remaining strength to be at the service in the hospital’s chapel. And the ceremony went ahead with her in her hospital gown with her drip still attached.

Jade had hoped it could take place at a church near her Essex home.

But those plans had to be called off because she is too ill.

Around 20 close friends and family attended — knowing it could be the last time they see her.

Her publicist Max Clifford, speaking outside the hospital, said it was a "lovely" and “very short and emotional” service.

He said Jade “very pale and fragile”, she was in a wheelchair and it was the last thing she would do in public.

Mr Clifford added that she had a “smile and a kiss for everyone who was there”.

Mr Clifford said he believed the reality TV star was saying goodbye.

He said: “It was in my mind that she was saying a final goodbye to some people.”

He added: “Jade was obviously very happy with the whole thing; Jeff was there on one side, Jack was there on the other side, and it was a very short and emotional service.

“I think everybody knew just how important it was to Jade.”

“She finds it very hard to stay awake for more than a few minutes but she stayed awake for the 20 minutes of the service.

“It was a very positive atmosphere, after each of the boys were christened everyone clapped and after Jade was christened everyone clapped again.

“It was a very simple service. There were prayers and blessings and a few short readings.”

Jade has been heavily sedated since a bowel op this week to relieve her pain.

The only visitors she can now receive are her husband of 13 days Jack Tweed, 21, and her mum Jackiey Budden. Both arrived at the hospital at around 11am today.

Asked how her daughter was faring, Jackiey, 48, pinched her thumb and forefinger closely together — implying she has a very short while left.

Devastated Jack spent three hours at Jade’s bedside yesterday.

He emerged ashen-faced to say: “She’s sleeping.”

Jack has to spend nights at his mum’s as a condition of his early release from jail for assault.

He could be jailed again after another assault conviction this week.

But a pal said: “Jack’s not worried what happens to him.

“He just wants to be with Jade while there’s time.”

After the ceremony, some of Goody’s family and friends, including her husband and grandfather, went to a nearby pub.

Her grandfather, John Caddock, said the service had been beautiful.

He said: “It was very special.”
