Cole in dramatic nightclub arrest

/ On : jueves, marzo 05, 2009/
SOCCER ace Ashley Cole was arrested early this morning outside a posh London nightclub.

The England star, 28, was taken into custody after a night out with team-mates turned sour.

Cole allegedly launched a foul-mouthed rant at cops as he left The Collection, in west London, with John Terry and Michael Mancienne.

The left back – husband of singer and X Factor judge Cheryl Cole – was then cuffed and whisked off to a nearby police station.

Premier League star Cole - who earns £82,000 a week - spent around three hours in the cells.

He was held on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly before being issued with an £80 fixed penalty notice and allowed to go home.

Earlier he had been snapped at a nearby charity event with ex GMTV presenter Fiona Phillips.

Cole's wife is currently climbing Mount Kilimanjaro with a number of other celebrities in aid of Comic Relief.

The Girls Aloud star is on the fourth day of the climb and has completed almost 16,000ft of the 19,340ft mountain.

An update on the Red Nose Day website said she was “ill in the night and had to have an anti sickness jab” so was taking the climb “slowly” today.

Cheryl, 25, said: "The fun is over. This is unquestionably the hardest thing I have ever done."

The Collection opened in 1997 and has become a celebrity haunt after George Michael threw a birthday party there following his arrest in a Beverly Hills public toilet.

Before his arrest, Cole joined Chelsea’s first team squad and more than 300 charity workers, celebrities and supporters for the second annual Chelsea FC and Armani fundraiser.

According to a statement on the club’s website: “Children from Chelsea’s two official charity partners, Clic Sargent and Right To Play, joined the players at the Armani Store on Brompton Road where they pitted their talents against the team on Scalextric, computer games, table football and pool.

“Funds were raised for the two charities via an auction that was auctioneered by Chelsea and England captain John Terry.

“Other guests included former Formula One supremo Eddie Jordan, Graeme Le Saux, TV presenter Alice Beer and Lady Helen Taylor.”

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "At about 2.15am today, a man was arrested in Brompton Road, South Kensington, on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

"The man was taken to a central London police station where he was later issued with a fixed penalty notice for being drunk and disorderly and released at 5.37am."

A Chelsea spokesman said later: “We are aware that Ashley was detained last night. We will want to establish all the facts before commenting.”
