A PLANE lies with its nose slumped on an airport’s tarmac after a terrifying crash-landing last night.
Passengers feared for their lives when the nosewheel of the British Airways flight from Amsterdam broke off as it touched down at London’s City Airport.
Sixty-seven, plus four crew, were evacuated via emergency chutes after Flight 8456 scraped to a halt at the airport which is surrounded by water in the Docklands area. The plane stopped just yards from the waterside.
Up to a dozen fire engines and six ambulances raced to the scene. Four passengers were treated for minor injuries.
Witness Wayne Smart, 40, said of the drama, which caused chaos for other flights: “The plane skidded across the runway. Sparks were flying. Passengers looked shaken and shocked.”
The crash comes after another BA jet suffered a collapsed wheel landing at the airport eight days earlier.
